Blackwall Hit $2.2 Billion Because Websites Cannot Tell People, Agents, and Bots Apart

Blackwall raised $100 million at a $2.2 billion valuation to help hosts sort real visitors from unwanted automation. Your site needs the same decision, in plain rules.

Website analytics on a desktop monitor

On 20 October 2026, Estonia-based Blackwall said it had raised $100 million at a $2.2 billion valuation, four times its 2025 round. The customer is not the website owner directly. Blackwall sells through hosting, cloud, and managed-service providers, and those providers resell the tools under their own brand. The reason the round exists is traffic: a growing share of requests are bots and AI agents, and a blunt block is no longer a strategy.

What they claim to sort

AVP led the Series C, with Dawn Capital, MMC Ventures, and Tera Ventures. The product set includes threat intelligence, certificates, DDoS protection, and routing. Blackwall says it fingerprints the software behind a request and uses its own models to judge intent, so a person’s agent is not treated like a flood of scrapers. Leadership also said the next problem is which agents may transact, on what terms, and how they pay. They plan to grow in North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, and the Middle East. A policy you can write without a $2 billion vendor

  • Read-only is the default for strangers. Catalogue pages, articles, and public prices can stay open.
  • Actions need an account. Quotes, bookings, and payments are for a person or an agent that customer authorised.
  • Do not count every hit as a lead. One-page visits from data centres are traffic, not demand.
  • Say what a good agent may do. If you want shopping agents to buy, give them a stable catalogue and a real checkout, and keep the order in your system.

Blocking everything that is not a browser will also block the customers who browse through an assistant. Allowing everything will fill your forms with junk. The middle is a rule per path. When you are ready for an agent of your own on the same catalogue, that is AI agent development.

FAQ

Should we buy a bot product this week?

Ask your host what they already filter. Then look at your own logs: which paths are hit, and which of those are forms or checkout. Spend money where the junk creates cost or risk.

Will AI agents replace SEO?

Agents still have to fetch your pages or your API. Clear pages and a stable feed remain the way you are found. The new work is deciding which of those fetches may become an order.
