On 14 October 2026, TechCrunch reported that Zenzap raised $44 million to build a workplace messenger with AI. The pitch is familiar in India: teams already run the company on WhatsApp, and consumer chat was never designed for IT rules or an agent that can see the whole business. The funding does not mean you should migrate the company off WhatsApp next quarter.
What Zenzap is selling
Founder Guy Weiss is aiming at hospitality, construction, healthcare, and fast food, not at developer teams on Slack. Investors include Bessemer, Lightspeed, and The Garage. The free tier covers group and direct chat, tasks, calendar, and schedules, plus AI voice chat and search. Paid plans start at $51 a month for up to 20 users and add calls, task templates, more storage, workspace search, and turning messages into tasks. Agents and transcriptions use credits. Weiss named large US chains as customers and said restaurant branches coordinate shifts and supply on the app. The company has about 50 people in the US, Tel Aviv, and Europe. Three chats, three rules
- Staff coordination can live in a work app if people will actually open it. A tool nobody installs becomes a second inbox.
- Customer WhatsApp should stay on WhatsApp Business where your buyers already are. Moving them is a channel change, not an IT cleanup.
- The record belongs in your CRM or ERP. A chat log is not a quotation, a dispatch, or an invoice.
An agent on top of a personal WhatsApp group can see family messages, supplier rates, and customer numbers in one thread. That is the failure mode. Give the agent a work inbox, a permission list, and a write path into the system you already trust. The pattern is connecting an AI agent to a CRM.
FAQ
Is $51 a month cheaper than custom software?
For a 20-person crew that only needs tasks and calls, a subscription can be the whole product. The moment you need your item master, your delivery rules, or your approval chain, the subscription is a chat layer and the system of record is still yours to build or buy.
Should we ban WhatsApp?
Ban customer data and payment screenshots in personal groups. Keep the app your buyers will answer. Put the agent and the archive on the business side.
An agent on the business number
Contact Altron Technologies if staff WhatsApp is where orders go to disappear. We can land them in a CRM with a human check.
